Learning to Lead

Leadership alone is very tough task but when you add the digital world in which we live, leading becomes exponentially more difficult.  With the Internet at our fingertips how do we lead in a manner that is current and relevant?  I personally believe you lead by example.  Currently I am learning how to lead digitally.  I have to study and prepare assignments in a whole new manner that was once foreign to me.  I have also been taken out of my comfort zone.  The masters program that I am in allows me total freedom over how I express what I have learned.

This concept is new to me.  I am use to someone telling me what to do and how to do it. At first this idea of choice caused me to be apprehensive.  I felt like I didn’t know what platform to choose, but I soon figured out that I had to explore new things.  We have to be prepared to meet our students where they are in terms of technology.  More students have some type of device that gives them access to the internet, they also have all types of social media.  Therefore, we must evolve our learning in order to reach them

Choice, Ownership, Voice,and Authenticity:

What is the COVA Model?

C The freedom to choose (C) how they wish to organize, structure and present their experiences and evidences of learning.
O Ownership (O) over the entire ePortfolio process – including selection of projects and their portfolio tools.
V The opportunity to use their own voice (V) to revise and restructure their work and ideas.
A Authentic (A) learning experiences that enable students to make a difference in their own learning environments.
