Why Use an E-Portfolio

I personally do not see a downside to building an e-portfolio.  The age in which we live does not afford us the opportunity to be stagnant when it comes to technology. Professional portfolios have been used for years and I think pretty soon they will be to the go to for many different industries.

An e-portfolio allows a person to provide evidence of learning, or abilities.  It provides a vehicle for active/deeper learning.  If we look at it from the COVA model we are given the freedom to showcase our learning however we deem appropriate.  Lastly, its visual learning. We at a time where you need to do more than just past a test to show you are qualified to do certain things.  Our e-portfolios show the skills in which we possess.

Also, our portfolios allows us to know ourselves.  Self knowledge is the outcome of learning.  We are allowed to go back and reflect on the different assignments and or blogs we have posted which then allows us to learn from those experiences. Reflection allows us to mentally process our learning experiences.  We can chart our growth over time.

At this time most of us are both students and professionals.  We are learning at the same time we are teaching others.  As both students and educators we gather valuable information about ourselves the process of creating our portfolio and the final product.
