COVA Reflection

The COVA model definitely hit me like a hurricane.  I was not until I reached the third course that I truly realized what having choice in learning meant.  For me it was very difficult having to choose the mode in which I displayed my learning.  Up until this program every class I had ever taken had given me strict guidelines to follow what it came to how and what they expected with very little to no choice.  I now know that choice and ownership of learning is how true authentic learning takes place.

At first I was fearful because I did not know if I could be successful in this program.  I felt as though some of my earlier work wasn’t good enough.  I had to shift my mindset in order to truly immerse myself in the COVA model.  I had to realize that it is ok to have choice because the choice leads to ownership which is something we want to pass along to our students.

When we first started talking about innovation plans I was thinking of something that I could do on a grand scale.  It wasn’t until I met with Dr. Thibodeaux that I realized I just needed to focus on something that would change the landscape of my classroom and then work my way out from there.  It was from here that I decided to tackle incorporating the station rotation model of blended learning in my classroom. After doing some research I definitely felt that blended learning to do wonders in my school but my original focus was to change my classroom and see what results were produced.
