Action Research Outline
- What is the topic of your research?
- The effectiveness of using the station rotation, blended learning model in an 8th grade resource classroom for math instruction.
- What is the purpose of your study?
- I want to know if student achievement will increase if I start using the blended learning model during independent practice. In the resource math classroom there is a wide range of academic abilities. I have yet to find an effective way to successfully close the gaps. Blended seems like an appropriate fit for the classroom.
- What is your fundamental research question?
- Will the station rotation model of blended learning increase math achievement in my 8th grade students.
- What is your research design?
- My research design will focus around quantitative research methods. I picked this design for a few reasons. Some of the reasons are:
- My research question is specific.
- The time is have for the study is relatively short.
- My desire for structure is high
- My research design will focus around quantitative research methods. I picked this design for a few reasons. Some of the reasons are:
- What type of data will you collect?
- I am planning to look at common assessments that are given once every 6 weeks, as well as renaissance testing which is also done once per 6 weeks.
- One assessment will give me data on how well students are processing the information being taught in class while the other will give me the exact grade level the student is currently.
- I am planning to look at common assessments that are given once every 6 weeks, as well as renaissance testing which is also done once per 6 weeks.
- What types of measurements will you use?
- I will be looking at growth.
- Common assessments provide data that shows if students did not meet, approaching, met, and exceeds standard.
- Renaissance testing provides data on the grade level that the student is currently working in.
- I will be looking at growth.
- What is the focus of your literature review?
- To find empirical data that substantiates whether blended learning is or is not an effective tool for math achievement.
