Disruptive Innovation in Technology

Blended Learning is the engine that can power personalized and competency based learning.  Online learning allows students to learn at anytime and at the pace of the student. There are many different paths that can be taken which lead to a common destination.

As a middle school teacher I’ve seen countless students get frustrated when they are required to take assessment after assessment  because they do not see the importance. They learn the material for the test and never pick the material up again. The way things are now our students have no choice or ownership over their learning.

Currently in the Special Education resource classroom there is no authentic student centered way for them to display what they have learned. In order to solve this I am proposing that in Special Education classrooms we introduce blended learning with the station rotation model.  Students will be allowed to rotate around the room on a fixed interval to different stations in order to grasp concepts in an interactive and digital environment. The age in which we live does not afford us the opportunity to be stagnant when it comes to technology. The station rotation model will allows students to receive instruction from the teacher and then rotate to other modalities to gain a better understanding of the concept being taught.
