What’s Your Why?

Why statement:

We believe that we must give our students the best education possible so that they are prepared for the future.

How statement:

In order to achieve this we will create a blended learning environment that promotes choice, ownership, voice and authenticity.

What statement:

We create students who think critically and own their learning.

Reflection:

Speaking to the heart is all about making connections.  The why statement allows you to state your purpose. When implementing change you have to get others to buy into the fact that the change is needed.  Also, that the changed is urgent and necessary.

I want to implement change in my school that will allow our students to have ownership of their learning.  Currently our students are not very motivated, as a whole, to learn. They are falling further and further behind and it is necessary to implement a change now.  In any field you always want to be with the times or ahead of the times and this is especially true when it comes to education.

It is my goal to create a sense of urgency by reminding teachers why we are here.  It is our goal to educate our students but it currently seems that they are not receptive to the methods that we been employing.  By implementing the blended learning model and giving them choice, ownership, voice and authenticity we will create students who are critical thinkers as well as champions of their learning.
